Dr Laura Murphy
Yoga Therapist, Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist
Dr Murphy will join us in module 2 to deliver an introduction to her approach, lead us through a Trauma Informed Yoga session and answer questions.
Dr Laura Murphy MBChB, MRCPsych qualified in Medicine from The University of Manchester. Laura has over 15 years’ experience as a doctor. She is a member of The Royal College of Psychiatrists and she is a consultant perinatal psychiatrist. Laura has her 200-hour yoga teacher accreditation with Yoga Alliance, and her 500-hour yoga therapy accreditation with The British Council of Yoga Therapy.
She is also a qualified pregnancy yoga teacher and a level 1 Breath Body Mind practitioner. She has training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychodynamic interpersonal therapy, mentalisation based treatment and cognitive behavioural therapy.
She has qualified in Medical Education from Edge Hill University and she is a communication skills trainer for medical students. Laura has completed the Prescribing Lifestyle Medicine course, accredited by The Royal College of General Practitioners.
Laura first started practising yoga in her early twenties, when she discovered how beneficial it was in managing anxiety and improving physical and mental wellbeing. She wanted to share this with the patients that she works with in the NHS and so qualified as a yoga teacher and therapist. She runs a yoga therapy group for women in the Manchester community perinatal mental health service who are suffering from a wide range of illness including anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder and psychosis.
